Taos Guild Events Support Opera Education and Appreciation in Taos

Guild Sponsors Youth Attendance at MET Live HD Performances

In partnership with the Taos TCA, each year the Taos Opera Guild supports opera education for Taos middle and high school students, by sponsoring free full length New York Metropolitan Operas for all interested music, band & choral, and drama students. Free tickets and free lunches are gifted & provided to students for 2 simulcast Saturday matinee opera performances a year, one in the fall and one in the spring semester of each academic school year. To date, we have sponsored 6 different NY MET operas over the past 4 years, serving approximately 135 students. This year, our 5th year with the program, Mr. Sergio Carrillo, the music Taos High School & Middle School teacher, has chosen 2 operas for his students, one very soon in the fall (Don Giovanni on October 22, 2016) and a 2nd opera for students in the spring of 2017, (La Traviata on March 11, 2017). After each opera, the Taos Opera Guild and the TCA host a post-opera discussion together with the students. This year, on October 22, 2016, after the Don Giovanni opera, 3 adult opera enthusiasts & the students will conduct a discussion of the opera they have just seen, and 4 itunes gift cards will be presented to selected students in recognition of their remarks, questions & answers & participation in the Don Giovanni post-opera discussion.
